Twineham Grange is a traditional Italian-style hard cheese, made in Italy using time-honoured methods with vegetarian rennet. It is the only cheese of its type to be Vegetarian Society Approved, and it is suitable for both vegetarians and coeliacs (naturally gluten-free).
Hard, nutty and richly savoury, it grates beautifully over pasta, risotto and salads, melts into a carbonara or a cheese sauce, and holds its own on a cheeseboard with fruit and a glass of wine. Wherever a recipe calls for a mature, hard grating cheese, Twineham Grange delivers.

Is this vegetarian Parmesan?
No, and strictly speaking, there is no such thing. Authentic Parmesan (Parmigiano Reggiano) is made to a protected recipe that uses animal rennet, so by definition it is never vegetarian, and "Parmesan" is a protected name that can only be used for that specific cheese. Twineham Grange is something different: a vegetarian Italian hard cheese, made with vegetarian rennet, with the same hard, nutty, savoury character for grating over pasta, risotto and salads. So it is not Parmesan, but for vegetarians it does the same job on the plate. Learn more.
What kind of cheese is Twineham Grange?
It is a vegetarian Italian hard cheese, aged to a firm, granular texture with a nutty, savoury flavour. It grates and shaves like any traditional Italian hard cheese, so you can use it anywhere you would use one.
Is it suitable for vegetarians?
Yes. It is Vegetarian Society Approved and made with vegetarian rennet rather than animal rennet.
Is it suitable for coeliacs?
Yes. Like most hard cheeses it is naturally gluten-free, so it suits coeliacs and anyone avoiding gluten.
Is it vegan?
No. It is a dairy cheese made from cows' milk. It is suitable for vegetarians, but it is not a vegan or plant-based product.
Is it halal?
It is made with vegetarian (non-animal) rennet and contains no pork or alcohol, which makes it suitable for many halal diets. It is not formally halal certified.
How should I use it?
Grate or shave it over pasta, risotto, soups, salads and stir-fries, stir it through sauces, or add it to a cheese board. It works anywhere you would reach for a hard Italian grating cheese.
How is it delivered and how long does it keep?

Great to be able to get a veggie parmesan, especially as my local supermarkets stopped stocking their equivalents.
My only suggestion is that the “cooling” blocks that came in the packaging seem unnecessary to me. More chemicals, more packaging weight, more waste and the condensation made the packaging soggy. All this for a wonderful cheese with a long shelf life for a short delivery journey.
I think the benefits of these cooling blocks is strongly outweighed by the disadvantages to the customer and environment.

The cheese tasted as good as normal. Unfortunately, we had problems with the delivery – APC took an extra day to get it to us (and then left it on the doorstep without ringing the bell apparently – we were all in) and this was in one of the recent heatwaves. As a result, the cheese is very oily on the outside and awkward/unpleasant to hold. It still tastes fine though. This is the second time APC have failed to deliver next day, but normally no problem. The cheese is a great Parmesan substitute when you have a vegetarian to feed.

I love Bookham Farms. The Sussex Charmer is divine. The price is more than reasonable and actually comparable to (inferior) supermarket prices, and you don’t have to mortgage the house to get free delivery!
